Architecture
An iconic dome has risen from the ashes of the former Geelong Regional Library. Design
The world communicates via social media - it's what we all do these days. Pillowfort Creative is a highly creative, concept driven studio based in Geelong, Australia – specialising in storytelling - artfully told through the wonders of animation. These local designers work in high-end animated TV productions, feature films and advertising campaigns, through to practical everyday illustration and motion graphics.
Ecosystem
Developed in 2016 as a collaborative project by Skilling the Bay, Enterprise Geelong, Entrepreneurs Geelong and Deakin University Manufutures, GEEMAP is an interactive tool that identifies and nurtures Geelong's entrepreneurial ecosystem, mapping what opportunities are available and highlighting any gaps that may inhibit growth in the region.
Music
Geelong College friends Steven Nichols and John O'Brien opened a new live music venue in 2015 - the Workers Club Geelong. Bringing the Workers Club brand they made famous in Fitzroy, the new venue is set to support the burgeoning arts and entertainment precinct in Little Malop Street, CBD Geelong. Film
The Hubcaps to Creative Hubs project is a unique three-film documentary project, shot and produced by Nicholas Searle, focusing on three of Geelong's former industrial sites - all locations currently undergoing a creative transformation. With the project being a collaboration between Dr. Cristina Garduno Freeman (University of Melbourne), Dr. Fiona Gray (Deakin University) and Jennifer Cromarty (Creative Geelong), the Geelong community supported a crowdfunding campaign and contributed $20,000 towards the project.
Urban Geelong
Geelong's laneways have started to gather momentum as coffee shops, street art and small creative businesses engage locals to explore. Cafes such as Fuel, Spot for Joe, Bear & Bean and The Little Green Corner are among the unique offerings in Geelong and trading alongside an ever-growing strong street art presence.
Writing
Word for Word National Non-Fiction Festival is a unique literary event showcasing non-fiction writing in all its many facets and forms. Held annually in the iconic Geelong Library & Heritage Centre, the Festival covers all form of writing, from memoir, biography, journalism, blogs, history, travel, song-writing or poetry.
Performance
The Back to Back Theatre is a local triumph. For several decades, this pioneering, contemporary theatre company has provoked audiences and challenged views of people with a disability. Giving voice to all people through performance, the company tours locally, nationally and internationally.
